7 Summer Skincare Do's and Dont's
If you’re from Texas, like me, this sunshine and heat is no joke. With above 100-degree weather and inescapable heat, not a single person doesn’t dread stepping out. The one issue and self-regimen a lot of us forget in the summertime, while too busy battling the heat, is skincare. A splash of cold water on the face feels better than anything, but there’s more to it than that. Here are seven do’s and don’t to keep your skin healthy and you happy this summer.
DO wear SPF
It may seem trivial in the grand scheme of things, but SPF is and needs to be your best friend despite the time of the year. Even if you haven’t noticed a difference without it, the difference will catch up to you. It will prevent sunburn and an unwanted tan along with protecting you from harmful sun rays which can lead to skin cancer. If you’re new to sunscreen start with SPF 30 and move up to 50 depending on your likeness
DON’T take hot showers
Hot showers are a godsend after a long day, but maybe cut back on them in the summer. The hot water can dehydrate the skin especially after being out in the piping hot sun all day. You don’t have to stop showering completely, just dial the temperature down 10 to 15 degrees and you’ll be good to go.
DO moisturize
After that shower, don’t forget to moisturize while your skin is still relatively damp. It will absorb the lotion much quicker and leave your skin feeling soft, smooth and hydrated.
DON’T add too many layers
It may seem like a great idea to protect your skin with as many products as possible in the summer, but that’s the opposite of what you should be doing. Too many layers means your skin won’t be able to properly absorb what it needs to stay moisturized. Keep your routine simple and light.
DO cleanse your skin
It seems like the ultimate task some days, but cleansing your skin twice a day is key. Wash your face in the beginning and end of the day to unclog your pores of excess oils, product, and all that acquired, unknown gunk.
DON’T touch your face
Our hands can contain all types of oils and things we are unaware of at any given time. Touching the face introduces bacteria which can lead to irritated skin and unwanted breakouts.
DO drink lots of water
This one speaks for itself. We should initially be drinking 2.5 liters of water daily, but up that number in the summer. Cut back on carbonated drinks and keep a water bottle handy at all times in the summer to stay hydrated and keep that skin glowing.
